I love lipsticks. I love them so much I have bags full of them. I think lipsticks are the best way to update your makeup look, because adjusting your lipstick shades to fit season trends is a fairly inexpensive way of keeping your makeup look up to date. Because of this logic I buy new lipsticks all the time, when I find a new shade, a good formula, or I hear a lot of buzz. I also have a love of high end products so I have accumulated quite a few designer lipsticks over the years. High end lipsticks tend to have excellent color payoff that can deter people from wearing them daily. Though I find if you apply a lip balm right before you apply the lipstick the color will have a more balmy finish, I love this trick because it makes color dense lipsticks more appropriate for everyday wear. My favorite designer lipsticks tend to be from Chanel, Dior, Tom Ford, Nars, and Bite Beauty.
Chanel has the world’s best packaging, the lipstick comes in a black case with a gold top that you press to pop the lipstick out of the case. My favorite Chanel lipstick is the Rouge Allure in shade 135 Énigmatique, which is a truly wearable red with a subtle shine. It’s not too bright or too dark, so while it does give a pop of color it doesn’t overpower your look. You can wear this shade with almost anything, and I find it to be a more appropriate shade for winter and fall.
I have always had a soft spot for Tom Ford lipsticks. Whenever I see one I want to buy it immediately. Tom Ford lipsticks have a great formula that lasts forever and has great color payoff. My favorite shades so far are 08 Flamingo and 30 Negligée, both having a slightly matte finish. Flamingo is a very bright pink, and is definitely a bold statement color. It is the kind of shade that needs to be worn with simple makeup and an outfit to match, and works well for spring and summer. Negligée is a deep neutral shade that reminds me of lipstick in the 90’s. It is a perfect everyday color that can be worn with almost anything.
Bite Beauty is an excellent company. All of their lip products are made from edible ingredients so you aren’t consuming chemicals every time you eat and drink while wearing lipstick. People who wear lipstick daily consume an average of 3.7 pounds of lipstick in their lifetime, so using edible ingredients in lip products is a great step in the right direction. My favorite Bite lip product is the High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate. This is a bright red with a slight blue undertone. This doesn’t last as long as a stain but it wears nicely. It doesn’t dry out the lips and it has a subtle shine. This is better worn with simple clothes and makeup, and works all year round.
I also have a few lip products that are less expensive but are still higher end than what you find at the drugstore. These include Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain in shade 01 Always Red and Clarins’ Instant Light in the shade 05 Candy Shimmer. The Cream Lip Stain is a bold blue red and is applied like a liquid lipstick. This dries to a matte finish and lasts all day but will dry out your lips horribly. It needs to be worn with simple makeup and clothes, and is not a good everyday color mostly because it is so drying. Instant Light is technically a lipgloss but I’m going to include it anyways. It is a great everyday shade and has a your lips but better color and has a beautiful shine. This is a great color to wear if you want to have a more natural look.
Lipsticks are one of my favorite makeup products. I find them to be the perfect finishing touch and they add something splendid to your look. Although I own far more lipsticks than necessary I will never stop buying them for they bring a brightness to my day, not just to my makeup but also to my mood.
Love your post! You should put pictures of the lipsticks too 🙂
